What We Do

What is dietetics?

Dietetics is the science of human nutrition and its effect on health. It involves the regulation of diet for the promotion, maintenance and improvement of health, and the control of nutrition-related diseases.
Dietitians practice dietetics. They are experts in nutrition and develop meal plans, help make lifestyle changes and even behavioural modifications to help treat, manage and prevent chronic disease and a range of associated conditions.

What does a dietitian do?

Dietitians use the most up-to-date public health and scientific research on food, health and disease, to design individual nutritional therapies to address specific health issues.
They assess, diagnose and treat dietary and nutritional problems to:

  • Promote health
  • Treat and prevent malnutrition
  • Provide therapeutic dietary guidelines for patients.

Dietitians are university qualified health professionals.

Chronic disease management

When you suffer with a chronic illness it can be hard to know what to eat, and it’s easy to be overwhelmed by what you think you can’t eat. Dietitians help you understand your condition and provide education about the nutrients that affect it. They create eating plans that include the nutrients that can help you manage your specific condition.

What medical conditions can benefit from dietetics?

– High cholesterol
– High blood pressure

– Cancer
– Unhealthy weight
– Hypertension
– Coeliac disease
– Food allergies
– Lactose intolerance

Dietitians work with both healthy and sick people, providing practical, easy to follow guidance to enable people to make appropriate lifestyle and food choices.

– The highest level of nutrition counselling
– Personally tailored advice
– Help managing chronic diseases
– Guidance navigating food allergies, sensitivities and intolerances
– A weight loss program that really works
